The CIO-CFO Partnership in an Era of Increasing IT Costs
Karen Testman, RN
Most health systems are well beyond the initial implementation of an EHR and into an unexpectedly protracted period of “optimization.” Rather than being “done,” there have been ongoing costs of refinement and expansion. At the same time, reimbursement has continued to decline while there has been a rise of population health activities, an explosion of analytics, and growing cybersecurity needs that are driving IT expenses skyward. However, these facts don’t matter; there is simply less money to go around when it comes to IT budgeting. This presentation will outline the strategies that the CIO and CFO of MemorialCare Health System have created and instituted in coping with these realities.
