By Thao Tran, Chair, Academic Alliance Community

Antonius Kusuma, or Tony as he is known by his peers, entered the Health Care Informatics field with a strong technical background. He has a Master of Science degree in Computer Science and over 18 years of experience working in Information Technology in diverse fields, from seismic data processing, banking, and telecommunication to financial industries. He is currently pursuing his Master’s degree in Health Care Informatics at the University of San Diego.

His primary interest and background are in data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. Some of the work he has done in his previous positions broke new grounds, such as the application of Neural Networks and Genetic Algorithms in seismic data processing. He is a published author and has presented some of his work in the field of Artificial Intelligence at conferences.

Tony is currently employed by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), working with big data to provide analytical support in the implementation of statewide correctional health care quality and improvement process.

Currently, Tony is simultaneously involved in several prominent projects at CDCR. He recently completed the Patient Safety Dashboard and Registry to provide management at the institutional and state level a high-level view of the patient safety performance. He conducted a study on the growth and effectiveness of the CDCR’s telemedicine program as part of the report for the Receivership. He created a tracking tool to ensure compliance in long-term inpatient care at CDCR. Most recently, he is taking on the technical lead role in the migration of CDCR’s electronic dental record to a new system. He is also finishing up his Master in Health Care Informatics program at the University of San Diego with the expected graduation date of May 2018.
