Geri Pavia has been involved with the HIMSS SoCal Chapter for almost ten years, four of those years as the VP of Programs. Her passion for charities that support children with acute or chronic illness shows through her involvement in HIMSS SoCal golf tournaments. Geri is a Strategic Healthcare Consultant with over 17 years of experience in business and Healthcare Technology Solutions. Her career has been spent building and leading top-producing partnerships and revenue-generating initiatives within Healthcare. She is a results-oriented individual who understands clinical projects from budgeting and project timeline execution perspectives. Geri has an acute ability to combine her creative skills in strategic clinical planning, client relations, problem research, team leadership and mentoring within direct and indirect technology-based healthcare environments. She has built a solid network of relationships in the direct hospital networks, healthcare, healthcare provider, biosciences, public sector, and state and local government, and healthcare education (SLED) markets.
LeRoy Smith is both a credentialed healthcare practitioner with extensive operational experience, as well as an expert in the IT systems so crucial to delivering the highest-quality patient care. In an impressive career that has progressed from staff nurse to senior management of clinical informatics at some of the most esteemed hospitals, LeRoy has partnered with organizational leadership to adopt platforms that transform the delivery of care. Joining T2 Tech Group recently as a project manager, he bridges the functions of information technology to deliver solutions that improve client experience and services, stimulate new ways of doing business, and improve quality of workflows. Bringing his breadth of clinical experience, at T2 Tech he continues to manage projects and initiatives throughout the full systems lifecycle.
LeRoy joined T2 Tech from Good Samaritan Hospital of Los Angeles, where for 3 years he was the Clinical Informatics Director. He was responsible for all administrative and management functions of clinical-system applications. In this role, he collaborated with hospital leadership to leverage technology for healthcare transformation and adoption-strategy execution. He was also responsible for clinician training and curriculum development for projects, along with continued education related to EMR systems. Most notably, he directed physician-documentation strategy, increasing adoption to 85% and saving $1.3M in transcription costs over 3 years. He designed a strategic roadmap to attain EMRAM Stage 6 Award (the top third in EMR adoption). He led a 2-year project to establish data interoperability for Anthem’s Vivity healthcare information exchange joint partnership. He implemented a disaster-recovery/continuity plan to recover critical business applications within 4 hours of an event. And he improved reimbursement performance by partnering in a strategy for Hospital Quality Initiatives.
Prior to his position at Good Samaritan, LeRoy was the Clinical Informatics Director at Dignity Health, St. John’s Hospitals, which has campuses in Oxnard and Camarillo, California. There he led the EMR evolution toward a clinical enterprise system, engaging stakeholders in the understanding of clinical workflows. He established and monitored quality measures and metrics, as well as executed and managed IT projects and governance throughout the hospitals. Before working at St. John’s, LeRoy was the Clinical Informatics Manager at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia, California. He was promoted from a position as project coordinator and senior systems analyst.
From 2000 to 2006, LeRoy gained his practitioner experience, first as Staff Nurse, then progressing to Nursing Supervisor, at LAC- USC Medical Center in Los Angeles.
LeRoy received his ADN, Nursing from the County of Los Angeles, College of Nursing and Allied Health and holds a BS-Nursing degree from University of Phoenix. He earned his MBA with Project Management concentration from Mount St. Mary’s College in Los Angeles. He is a licensed Registered Nurse (RN), a Certified Informatics Nurse (RN-BC), and a Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS). He is an active member of the American Nursing Association (ANA) and Healthcare Informatics Systems Society (HIMSS). He is currently the VP of Administration of the HIMSS SoCal Chapter.
Immediate Past President
Karen Kennedy is an active registered nurse for 20+ years, with over 10 years of clinical informatics expertise. Karen completed her undergraduate work at University of Medicine & Dentistry (UMDNJ), and her MBA at the University of Phoenix.
Karen started her career as a staff nurse at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ in the pediatric medical surgical and intensive care units. Throughout her career she worked in several healthcare arenas and gained expertise in case management, quality, homecare, hospice, and education. Positions include: Regional Clinical Informaticist, Senior Director of Education & Compliance, Corporate Regional Compliance Specialist, and Continuous Quality Improvement Manager (CQIM). Karen’s informatics background includes project manager during implementation & conversions of EHRs to include: Epic, Cerner, McKesson, Meditech and HMS.Karen’s current focus is on improved healthcare through information technology (IT). She works closely with executive management teams, analysts and front-line staff to ultimately enhance and optimize technology and informatics tools that help clinicians provide improved care and positive health outcomes for patients nationwide. As the current President of SoCal HIMSS Karen continues to not only be an advocate for patients but all clinicians by promoting the importance of healthcare professionals having a voice at the table for Health IT initiatives.
Midori Kondo, PharmD, MHA
Vice President, Administration/Secretary
Midori has a global outlook characterized by exemplary leadership and healthcare domain expertise which has attributed to her ability to develop and execute strategy. As a pioneering healthcare professional and a recognized expert in healthcare processes, Midori has extensive experience transforming provider organizations into enterprise healthcare systems to deliver high-quality, cost-effective patient care using game changing technology solutions.
At Health DataVerse Inc, she serves as the managing partner focusing on growth and strategy engagements for healthcare organizations which includes business development, strategic planning, technical asset evaluation and care delivery outcome assessments. Midori leverages her expertise in clinical, operational and patient workflow analysis to not only transform organizations but to advise founders and healthcare product companies in the evaluation of their current offerings and market segments to create a strategic roadmap and growth plan for the development of next-generation, data-driven and interactive AI solutions.
Previously, Midori served as the Director of Enterprise information systems (EIS) at Cedars- Sinai where she was responsible for Inpatient services including pharmacy, OR, ED, device integration and special development projects as well as Epic Program Director. In her role, she was tasked with growing the EIS Epic team and readying the organization for moving to an enterprise record. There she interfaced with operational leaders to select, design, and implement not only the EMR but emerging technologies in which Cedars was in a development partnership.
At IBM, she was a senior strategy consultant in the advisory service line assigned to key customers across the United States to evaluate customers technical landscapes to quickly identify cross dependencies and system gaps to reduce variations in care that impact outcomes, value, and healthcare costs.
Driven by a desire to transform healthcare and a knack for entrepreneurship, Midori established InnovaShare, Inc., with the sole mission to connect emerging technologies companies, together with Healthcare focused organizations to enable rapid transformation of patient care using cutting-edge solutions.
Vice President, Finance/Treasurer
Clark Kegley works at Scripps Health as the Asst. Vice President of Information Services where he oversees the Enterprise Architecture, Service Delivery, Integration Services, Enterprise Change Management, Information Security, and Disaster Recovery. He has been with Scripps for more than 22 years and prior to that was a technology consultant working on large scale implementations and interface development within Healthcare.
Over the years, he has held positions such as Chief Information Officer (interim) and Director of IS Operations as well as owned his own consulting firm specializing in healthcare interfaces between clinical systems including selling a healthcare interfacing toolset commercially. Clark also serves as past President of the Southern California Chapter of HIMSS and served on the HIMSS National Chapter Task Force.
Clark is a CHIME certified CIO (CHCIO) and holds degrees in Business Administration and Computer Systems & Programming. He also holds a Master’s degree in Healthcare Management. He is a Fellow of the Advisory Board Company, Healthcare Executives Track, ITIL certified and a certified Remedy Administrator & Developer. Clark also served on the CHIME CHCIO test review committee which reviews/updates the CHCIO testing materials on an annual basis.
Clark has been married for more than 38 years to his high school sweetheart, Leslie, and has two grown Sons, Joshua and Daniel. His passion is spending time with his family on the Colorado River, especially his 8 year old granddaughter Scarlette and 2 year old grandson Ethan, where they boat in the summer and dune buggy, quad, and motorcycle ride in the winter along with their dog Rio.
Krystal Di Stefano
Vice President, Programs
Krystal Di Stefano is an experienced professional in sales and marketing. Krystal is the marketing manager at T2 Tech Group, a healthcare IT consulting firm. She is responsible for local and national marketing campaigns, brand advancement, social media, public and media relations, preparation of proposals and other business development projects. Prior to joining T2 Tech, Krystal took her first steps into the IT industry working at a prominent staffing and services company, TEKsystems, as a technical recruiter. Her previous work experience includes working in various capacities with professional athletes and some of Southern California’s premier professional sports organizations.
Krystal has served on the board for Southern California HIMSS as the membership chair and this year’s annual charity golf tournament chair. Krystal graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business and Mass Communication from Arizona State University.
Vice President, Advocacy
Ian Slade started his healthcare journey as a trauma nurse when he was 19 y/o. He went on to study MA Psychology and MBA. In the past 20 years Ian has served as a HIT consultant in more than 30 hospitals in the US, Canada and the UK. His passion to help the underserved and underprivileged led him to help standardized Anesthesia care for VA patients throughout the country. He joined HIMSS Southern California Advocacy group in 2013 and has been on the Chapter's Executive Board since 2014. He was selected to serve as the HIMSS National Western Vice Chair for Advocacy in 2015. In 2017 he was elected Chapter President. As chapter President, he promoted female and minority board members. He also paved the way for three consecutive female presidents to succeed him. He grew the chapter from 2k to 3k+ members and unified Northern and Southern California Advocacy efforts.
Throughout the years Ian has advocated for patients, healthcare technology and hospitals in the halls of Sacramento and the corridors of Capitol Hill. He advocated heavily for improved Cybersecurity and Interoperability legislation. He has lectured nationally and internationally in the areas of Healthcare project management and Healthcare advocacy. Recently, he was selected by HIMSS National to serve as the National Chapter Advocacy Roundtable Chair. In this position he will lead advocacy efforts on behalf of 80k+ members for the next two years.
Last year he was selected by the International Forum on Advancement in Healthcare (IFAH) as one of the Top Global Healthcare Leaders. This year his consulting company, ITCG, was voted top 10 in healthcare IT in the US by Healthcare Tech Outlook Magazine.
He resides in Irvine California.
Chair, Sponsorship Committee
Don Boatright is an experienced professional in the exciting world of technical consulting. Currently Don serves as a Senior Account Manager at Mantek Solutions, a technology staffing specialty firm headquartered in Huntington Beach. He is responsible for the staff augmentation needs of several prestigious and well-known accounts. Prior to joining Mantek Solutions, Don worked as a healthcare specialist both in Business Development and acting as a Technical Recruiter for several healthcare consulting companies.
Don previously served the board for Southern California HIMSS as a volunteer as well as the Sponsorship Chair. He is returning as the Sponsorship Chair.
Don graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business and Political Science from the University of La Verne.
Regina Atim, Pharm.D., MBA, BCMAS
Chair, Academic Alliance Committee
Regina is currently the Chair for the Academic Alliance committee HIMSS SoCal chapter. She is also the Chair for the HIMSS SoCal 2020 Patient Engagement Forum. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, her Master of Business Administration from Northeastern University, and her Board certification in Medical Affairs from ACMA.
As a small business owner of Clinicians Touch Healthcare Solutions, Regina has leveraged her pharmacy experience to provide regulatory, EHR, and quality support to clients. She is currently an Associate Professor at the University of San Diego teaching Healthcare Informatics at the master’s level and is also their clinical placement coordinator.
Alan S. Young, MD, MBA, PMP
Chair, CMIO Committee
Dr. Alan Young is a physician leader with diverse clinical, corporate and entrepreneurial accomplishments. He is the Head of Clinical Partnerships with KelaHealth, using AI to improve surgical patient care through machine learning and clinical decision support. After completing a dual MD/MBA degree program at USC's Keck School of Medicine & Marshall School of Business, he obtained his medical license during his Orthopedic Surgery residency. Combining his passion for business & medicine, he served as a national healthcare subject matter expert Specialist Senior Consultant with Deloitte Consulting LLP while providing surgical physician services at Southern California Kaiser Permanente. At USC Care Medical Group he was the Director of Operations Strategy and Special Projects, leading ambulatory quality improvement initiatives and electronic health record optimization efforts to improve both patient and physician engagement. He served as Regional Director of Client Relations with Sagacious Consultants, Senior Manager with Accenture to drive business development and as the Client Service Leader for Slalom Consulting in LA. He is the former Chief Medical Officer for GYANT and Safe Health Systems. He currently practices medicine in the greater Los Angeles area and he also serves as the HIMSS SoCal CMIO Committee Chair, SoPE LA Chapter Leader, AIMed Ambassador and a ScaleLA Healthcare Committee member. Alan is also serving on the HIMSS National Physician Committee for 2019-2021 and the HIMSS Chapter Task Force for 2019-2020.
Chair, Marketing & Communications Committee
C’Mone Byrd has been providing IT solutions for the Healthcare Industry, Defense, Non-Profit and Insurance sectors within Southern California for 12 years. Ms. Byrd is currently a Client Executive at Unisys.
Unisys is a multi-billion dollar global IT company known for building highly secure, modern digital platforms. Unisys provides multi-cloud solutions including cybersecurity, digital government, core and retail banking, and travel and transportation. Ms. Byrd is responsible for transformation and management of applications, data, networks, and devices for enterprise customers located in Southern California. Ms. Byrd currently manages $XX million dollar book of business by leading teams that value teamwork, creativity, strong communication, active listening, and the ability to accomplish set goals to achieve success for Southern California businesses.
Ms. Byrd has been an active member in HIMSS SoCal for the past 5 years, as well as a prior Business Development member to NAHSE (National Association of Health Service Executives). Ms. Byrd has also served as Community Volunteer Lead for the Los Angeles Food Bank, Community Development Manager/Volunteer in support of Orange County Special Olympics, and Spirit Leader for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Mr. Byrd’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations from The University of Akron in Ohio.
Chair, Membership Committee
Ernesto Santana is the Vice President/CIO and co-founder of Intricare, a healthcare technology and consulting firm specialized in delivering innovative next-generation solutions. He's also the co-host of HealthInMotion, an upcoming web series aimed at improving health and wellness. He began his career as a technology consultant with RSM and later served as an adviser to Fortune 100 clients in IT regulatory matters such as Sarbanes-Oxley, PCI, and ISO27001. He holds a degree in Computer Science from The George Washington University.
