Karen Kennedy is an active registered nurse for 20+ years, with over 10 years of clinical informatics expertise. Karen completed her undergraduate work at University of Medicine & Dentistry (UMDNJ), and her MBA at the University of Phoenix.
Karen started her career as a staff nurse at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ in the pediatric medical surgical and intensive care units. Throughout her career she worked in several healthcare arenas and gained expertise in case management, quality, homecare, hospice, and education. Positions include: Regional Clinical Informaticist, Senior Director of Education & Compliance, Corporate Regional Compliance Specialist, and Continuous Quality Improvement Manager (CQIM). Karen’s informatics background includes project manager during implementation & conversions of EHRs to include: Epic, Cerner, McKesson, Meditech and HMS.
Karen’s current focus is on improved healthcare through information technology (IT). She works closely with executive management teams, analysts and front-line staff to ultimately enhance and optimize technology and informatics tools that help clinicians provide improved care and positive health outcomes for patients nationwide. As the current President of SoCal HIMSS Karen continues to not only be an advocate for patients but all clinicians by promoting the importance of healthcare professionals having a voice at the table for Health IT initiatives.
Geri Pavia has been involved with the HIMSS SoCal Chapter for almost ten years, four of those years as the VP of Programs. Her passion for charities that support children with acute or chronic illness shows through her involvement in HIMSS SoCal golf tournaments. Geri is a Strategic Healthcare Consultant with over 17 years of experience in business and Healthcare Technology Solutions. Her career has been spent building and leading top-producing partnerships and revenue-generating initiatives within Healthcare. She is a results-oriented individual who understands clinical projects from budgeting and project timeline execution perspectives. Geri has an acute ability to combine her creative skills in strategic clinical planning, client relations, problem research, team leadership and mentoring within direct and indirect technology-based healthcare environments. She has built a solid network of relationships in the direct hospital networks, healthcare, healthcare provider, biosciences, public sector, and state and local government, and healthcare education (SLED) markets.
Bella Zaghi has been involved with So-Cal HIMSS since she was a student at UCLA. She went to her first conference and got excited as she learned about Health IT, the developments in the field and its potential to improve patient care. Since her first event, she has devoted her time to volunteer for the chapter in various Committee and Board roles, plan and create events, and mentor students as they begin their journey in the Health IT arena. As Chair for the Academic Alliance Conference, she put together a blockbuster event with over 400 attendees ranging from students, professors, providers, policymakers and top leadership from local medical centers/medical groups/health insurance companies.
She then became Chair for the Academic Alliance Community where she expanded student outreach to cover San Diego to Santa Barbara and created the annual Career Roundtable Events. As VP of Administration she has been a key player in covering the administrative tasks for the Chapter that helped So-Cal to be honored with Chapter of the Year. On her current role as President she is looking forward to launching the Women in Health IT (WHIT) series, expanding programs to every corner in the region and engaging more millennials.
On her free time, Bella enjoys listening to music, spending time with family and friends and traveling.

Krystal Di Stefano
Vice President, Programs
Krystal Di Stefano is an experienced professional in sales and marketing. Krystal is the marketing manager at T2 Tech Group, a healthcare IT consulting firm. She is responsible for local and national marketing campaigns, brand advancement, social media, public and media relations, preparation of proposals and other business development projects. Prior to joining T2 Tech, Krystal took her first steps into the IT industry working at a prominent staffing and services company, TEKsystems, as a technical recruiter. Her previous work experience includes working in various capacities with professional athletes and some of Southern California’s premier professional sports organizations.
Krystal has served on the board for Southern California HIMSS as the membership chair and this year’s annual charity golf tournament chair. Krystal graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business and Mass Communication from Arizona State University.

Ian Slade RN, MBA, PMP is a Healthcare Innovator & Advocate. He is passionate about finding ways to do things better, faster, and cheaper without compromising patient outcomes. From the patient bedside to the halls of Capitol Hill, he has advocated for the betterment of patients, clinicians and the industry as a whole. He is currently the Managing Partner of I&T Consulting Group LLC, a healthcare focused solutions firm located in Southern California.
Regina Atim, Pharm.D., MBA, BCMAS
Chair, Academic Alliance Committee
Regina is currently the Chair for the Academic Alliance committee HIMSS SoCal chapter. She is also the Chair for the HIMSS SoCal 2020 Patient Engagement Forum. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, her Master of Business Administration from Northeastern University, and her Board certification in Medical Affairs from ACMA.
As a small business owner of Clinicians Touch Healthcare Solutions, Regina has leveraged her pharmacy experience to provide regulatory, EHR, and quality support to clients. She is currently an Associate Professor at the University of San Diego teaching Healthcare Informatics at the master’s level and is also their clinical placement coordinator.
Alan S. Young, MD, MBA, PMP
Chair, CMIO Committee
Dr. Alan Young is a physician leader with diverse clinical, corporate and entrepreneurial accomplishments. He is the Chief Medical Officer for GYANT, an artificial intelligence healthcare company building solutions to augment patient engagement and provider efficiency. After completing a dual MD/MBA degree program at USC's Keck School of Medicine & Marshall School of Business, he obtained his medical license during his Orthopedic Surgery residency. Combining his passion for business & medicine, he served as a national healthcare subject matter expert Specialist Senior Consultant with Deloitte Consulting LLP while providing surgical physician services at Southern California Kaiser Permanente. At USC Care Medical Group he was the Director of Operations Strategy and Special Projects, leading ambulatory quality improvement initiatives and electronic health record optimization efforts to improve both patient and physician engagement. He served as Regional Director of Client Relations with Sagacious Consultants, Senior Manager with Accenture to drive business development and as the Client Service Leader for Slalom Consulting in LA. He currently practices medicine in the greater Los Angeles area and he also serves as the So Cal HIMSS CMIO Committee Chair, SoPE LA Chapter Leader, AIMed Ambassador and a ScaleLA Healthcare Committee member. Alan is also serving on the HIMSS National Physician Committee for 2019-2021 and the HIMSS Chapter Task Force for 2019-2020.
Chair, Marketing & Communications Committee
As Director of HIT for L.A. Care, Len Rosenthal leads several successful large-scale technology-driven health care transformation initiatives. He has deep and broad experience in all aspects of program execution including developing strategy, designing operations plans, forming and growing teams, tracking progress, and making adjustments for successful outcomes. He leads strategic innovation research to evaluate viability of launching new approaches for L.A. Care to use technology to expand patient access and enhance experience. He built an excellent external reputation for L.A. Care HIT programs by leading effective marketing, public affairs, communications, and branding programs. Previously he was Executive Director of Marketing and Public Affairs for University Health Centers/Southern California University of Health Sciences, and held key marketing roles with technology companies including Cobham and Infotrieve. He also had a consulting practice, helping start up internet companies, some of which went public or were acquired. He received his MBA from Pepperdine University and Bachelor’s in Science in Biology from University of Maryland.

Ernesto Santana is the Vice President/CIO and co-founder of Intricare, a healthcare technology and consulting firm specialized in delivering innovative next-generation solutions. He's also the co-host of HealthInMotion, an upcoming web series aimed at improving health and wellness. He began his career as a technology consultant with RSM and later served as an adviser to Fortune 100 clients in IT regulatory matters such as Sarbanes-Oxley, PCI, and ISO27001. He holds a degree in Computer Science from The George Washington University.
