Spring 2017 Newsletter ♦ Message from the President

Welcome, dear reader, to another information-packed edition of Southern California HIMSS newsletter. In case you haven’t heard already, HIMSS National recently announced the Chapter of the Year winners, and once again Southern California was named Large Chapter of the Year! The judges look at a number of criteria including chapter engagement, service to members, communication, recruitment, education/professional development, leadership training, advocacy, and innovation. While I had the honor of accepting the award at HIMSS17, this achievement was made possible through the tireless commitment of many volunteers.

I could not be more proud to serve alongside so many talented and dedicated professionals. I want to thank our membership for being so engaged and active; the wonderful speakers who make our events so compelling; our fabulous sponsors without whom we could not succeed; and especially our Board, Committee Chairs and Co-Chairs who give so much of their time and talent to our Chapter.  Finally, I’d like to extend an invitation to all our members to get involved with our winning team. We’re always looking for new recruits!  You can learn more about volunteer opportunities on our website.

One of the things that makes our Chapter so exceptional is our Programs, and the Annual Healthcare IT Conference held on March 28 was a shining example.  Over 300 people were on hand at The California Endowment in downtown Los Angeles for a day of education, networking, and engaging conversation.  Returning this year was the Innovation Lab where we asked attendees to explore and vote on the most innovative products.  If you were unable to attend, be sure to check out our YouTube channel to watch the keynote addresses from David Sayen (morning) and Ken Rutkowski (afternoon) as well as panel discussions Leveraging the Strengths of Quality-Driven Healthcare and Big Data for Value-Based Care.  (Note: videos may not yet be posted at the time of this newsletter’s publication but will be available ASAP).

Also, be sure to mark your calendars for our upcoming events:

As always, our Marketing & Communications team has assembled a treasure trove of articles to keep you up to date on where we’ve been and where we are going. In this edition you’ll read about the Academic Alliance Community and its programs in support of students and early-careerists in HIT. The AAC, under the leadership and efforts of Thao Tran and her team, is doing innovative work that helps promote Chapter and the industry.

Kudos again to everyone for helping to make ours the best Chapter in the nation, and I hope to see you at our upcoming events.

Kind regards,

Tim Jones

President, SoCal HIMSS
