Q3 2017 Newsletter - Message from the President

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Southern California Chapter website. We are glad that you have reached your premier destination for all things HIMSS Southern California! Our membership spans Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Imperial, Kern, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties with approximately 2,600 members.

HIMSS enters its 56th year in operation with over 61,000 individual members, 640 corporate members, and over 450 non-profit organizations. HIMSS has truly set the standard for healthcare information systems, particularly with providing exceptional educational content, networking, advocacy, and many other value-added services surrounding privacy and security, patient engagement, and clinical informatics.

For this year, our theme is “Connect, Inform & Inspire”. Our goal is to give back to you, our loyal members! Outside of our best-in-class programs, be on the lookout for more opportunities to connect via small mixers, pre- and post-event meetups, and more frequently, through social media. Our marketing team is also working on creating podcasts, video conferences and event apps to make your experience even more immersive and collaborative.

We are also dramatically leaving healthy footprints in our communities. This year, we are on track to give more than $50,000 to Orange County Ronald McDonald House. RMH is an amazing organization that provides much needed housing to families with children who are facing serious illnesses. If you are in the vicinity, swing by and volunteer!

Over a year ago, I challenged our Board to come up with ways to improve healthcare through innovation and technology. I am very proud to announce that they did not disappoint. We have created the So CA HIMSS Olympic Healthcare Initiative Exploratory Committee. You read that right, the Olympics. Whether Los Angeles gets to host the Olympics in 2024 or 2028, the Chapter will serve as an integral part of defining interoperability for the Olympic Healthcare Committee. Our solutions will affect thousands of athletes, coaches, family members, etc. We will update you periodically on this through social media, of course.

Whether you are at the end of your career and are interested in giving back, still in school and looking for ways to break into this exciting industry, or anywhere in-between, I invite you to connect with Southern California HIMSS Chapter this year. If you’ve never been to an event, please check our calendar and sign up to attend. If you’d like to get more involved, please visit here to learn more about exciting volunteer opportunities.

As your 2017-2018 HIMSS Southern California Chapter President, it is truly an honor and pleasure to serve. I hope to see you at our upcoming events and programs and look forward to continuing the exciting work our Chapter is so dedicated to. If you have any questions, or would just like to say hello, please don’t hesitate! You can reach me on LinkedIn & Twitter: @sladeit

Thank you! ☺
