Spring 2015Members in Action
by Dianne Baker, Board Member and Marketing and Communications Chairperson
Our HIMSS SoCal Marketing and Communications Team is continually looking to bring our Chapter Members important information and meaningful content to improve your industry knowledge and expand the value of your membership. While much of this information has been centered on Regional and National initiatives and events – we also want to share the many activities and accomplishments our very engaged members and Chapter volunteers have contributed in the growth of our industry.
This quarter, we continue our Chapter Members In Action feature. We are proud of our Members’ many contributions and ask all of our members to please submit by email at:
Thank you for all the great contributions and the work you are doing for both our Chapter and our Industry!
A number of our SoCal Chapter leaders and Committee Members participated as speakers and panelists at our National HIMSS15 in April.
We were very proud to have one of our Marketing and Communications Committee team members, Dr. Vikram Kumar, CMIO at Arrowhead Regional, present “Leveraging the EHR to improve Population Health and Quality”.
Our Chapter President, James Brady, was recognized for his continued dedicated service to our industry and the HIMSS organization and accepted the award for the Distinguished Fellows Service Award. See the presentation here.
In support of our Organization’s commitment to expanding our Industry certifications, Jim Brady and Charles Boicey taught the full day pre-conference CPHIMS and CAHIMS review courses Sunday at HIMSS15.
Also at HIMSS15, our Incoming Chapter President, Sri Bharadwaj, was interviewed on the Live Talk Ten Tuesday. Tradeshow Radio was hosted by CTG and interviewed industry experts about the National meeting, industry trends and new initiatives. Sri has begun establishing a Patient Engagement Committee for the Chapter, and spoke on our new initiatives for next year, in particular, Patient Engagement.
Sri Bharadwaj also presented at the HIMSS15 Chapter Leader Workshop on “Ideas for Improving Sponsorship in Chapters” across the nation.
Also in April, Sri participated in the HIMSS National Committee for Interoperability and Standards. This Committee has been instrumental in providing knowledge transfer on FHIR. The FHIR FAQ resource provides high-level information on the concept and use of HL7® FHIR® in health IT. The FAQ may be accessed here.
Our congratulations go out to Clark Kegley, Past President and Assistant Vice President for Scripps Information Services, who achieved his CHCIO designation from CHIME. This is CHIME’s Healthcare CIO certification program and an outstanding achievement!
In April, Chapter Member and Advocacy Committee Member, Nicole Bloom, RN, MSN, CAHIMS, graduated from the University of San Diego Hahn School of Nursing with her Masters of Science in Nursing. Nicole also achieved her CAHIMS certification! Congratulations, Nicole!
